In the past, I've lamented the lack of really good activist or pro-human movies. 

Beatriz at Dinner is a rare exception to the prevailing narrative and is a powerful movie starring Salma Hayek who we know in the past has broken the cardinal rule of Hollywood which is to never mention the genocide and land thieving in Palestine by the Israeli colonisers.

I was enjoying the expected tension of a woman's car breaking down and her wealthy massage client insisting she stay for dinner with the kind of people who are so impoverished that they only know how to compare their net worth. 

All this while boasting of their exploits living in a world of extraordinary wealth compared to the ordinary hard working families that prop up much of the rich.

There's an interesting philosophical morality question that flips the script at the end of this terrific movie, and though it didn't catch me by surprise, it did offer a shockingly stark contrast to the gentle Reiki healer, spiritual female and woman who only gives her energy to relieve the pain of others.

I like to point out from time to time that wealth creation is a key driver of human development and I'm fully in favour of that. However, there's a lot of creepy parasites at the top who only know that he who dies with the most toys, wins.

Anna Baltzer, a Jewish American does an excellent job of sharing the learnings she made travelling around Turkey and then living in Palestine. The International Women's Peace Service has done an excellent job of bringing this female perspective to the suffering of the Palestinian people. 

I wish more women could take an interest in this subject and I applaud all Jewish people who make that effort as there is much pain involved in discovering reality.

Looks like Twitter are throttling activist accounts.

I'll know for sure in three or four days because I use SumAll to measure and automatically publish my data statistics publicly, but my gut feel is my Twitter account retweets have suddenly fallen off a cliff since yesterday. 

Let's see. I'll continue to talk about the issues I feel need greater awareness and I'll post the next SumAll automatic update below, when it comes, along with any other supporting evidence.

As you can see the figures are down but not drastically. All I can assume is that Twitter is throttling my retweets so that I don't get feedback as to what is working but that doesn't mean it is not getting retweeted. Oddly enough it says I have 13.5K New followers but that's not accurate. I have that number of followers not new people.

Norma Rae is the kind of pro-activist film Hollywood is no longer allowed to make. It won Sally Field an Oscar in 1979 for her performance as an underpaid cotton manufacturing worker emboldened by a visiting Union activist to set up a union for the employees with the usual obstacles put in place by the management who are hopelessly fixated on the scientific method of timing all the workers for the maximum productivity.

We now know from the unscientific method that people are more productive if they are happy and taken care of by employees. It's a warm movie with a slice of American life that I think still exists but is rarely brought to life as the mediated American way has drifted towards displays of crass consumerism, celebrity worship, sports distractions and military priapism....or Alien shit.

Movies about people coming together and taking on relentless greed are no longer made by the US. The big money investors don't wish to give the proletariat any ideas so fantasy is what they are served up with. Protesters or movements in movies are portrayed as Communists and radicals by Hollywood because that keeps the very people who are being exploited by greedy business in their place.

The only irony worth exploring is this movie won the Oscar in the same year that Deng Xiaoping instigated the special economic zones in China. The very places that took the manufacturing of the cotton and denim that Norma Rae is fighting for a better wage to produce.

There's an answer to this race to the bottom of lower production costs but it doesn't involve unconscious consumerism, botox materialism and relentless greed by business.

It might however involve 3D printing and design coding where ostensibly most products will become close to free. That will have an impact on Brands who have nothing different from their competitors and even more so on those who have anything substantive to say.

I realised then I'd underestimated MLK and this interview by comrade Eric Draitser of Stop Imperialism with Professor Tony Monteiro hammers it home.
