Terence McKenna On The Permission To Abstract From Nature That Printed Text Imposes

I've always wondered why there is so little scientific evaluation of the effects of Television when it was introduced. I have no idea how populations went from spending an hour or so around or with the radio to six and half hours a day glued to a screen without the scientific establishment doing the appropriate analysis or even pointing out that in terms of drugs it's as toxic as heroin given the stare-reflex it solicits disconnecting entire countries from the actions of their military abroad and the far reaching consequences of their consumption at home.

Terence draws on Alduous Huxley and Marshal McLuhan in this short audio clip. In some ways it's also about the art of advantages to drawing.

Nielsen Stats Confirm Death Of TV Not reported on TV

This is too funny. The death of TV is not being reported by TV (go figure) and also reinforces my point that the corporate media have a profit incentive in lying to people about food, health, politics and about those wars abroad.

Aaron Barnhart broke this news in the Kansas City Star using data that is six months old. Nobody serious has picked up on it including advertising planners it seems. Allow me to summarize the most beautiful trend in humanity.

The total number of U.S. households with TV sets declined year to year for the first time since Nielsen started counting TV ownership.

The number of households with no TV at all is at its highest level since 1975. Three percent of homes are TV-free.

Here are the graphs and chart's:

I put it to you that we live crucial times. That being informed by anything but a profit first, foremost, and last news media corporate entity, (like News International and Sky) is the difference between a healthy or a grossly distorted world view.

Don't let TV or Newspapers paint your reality. Particularly the corporate media news. Read lots and widely on the internet. Disagree with people in the comments. At least you know you're not being spoon fed.

Is McCorporate Media Smearing Muslims To Agitate For War Again?

Stewart Swerdlow and I disagree on lots of stuff but compared to the corporate media he's a healthy dose of opinion that is absent of the all pervasive Western agenda for profits through war. (Syria and Iran and Pakistan currently)

Throw out your TV and stop letting it poison your mind. A flickering screen paints reality just as effectively as the other one that doesn't need a screen between it and your eyeballs. You choose which one is healthier for objective judgements and healthy decision making that doesn't encourage the cowardly RAF bombing brown skinned people around the world to keep you in Israeli oranges and Lebanese dates over your fake Christmas celebrations.

The Secret Government - The Uncomfortable Truth In 1987

This program aired on PBS in 1987 and could never be shown today. To be candid it doesn't even scratch the surface of how the U.S has been inventing enemies, and plundering countries since the start.

Bill Moyers is a respected TV journalist who also worked for President Lyndon B. Johnson (a key Kennedy assassination player) and has a very professional and measured approach from the days when celebrity TV was considered unrelated to a country's well being.

He interviews many different people involved with the CIA and other government agencies. His documentary gives quite an overview of what has actually happened in the last 50 years regarding the CIA and the cold war (including Iran, GuatemalaCubaVietnam, Panama, Laos and Chile). He features such people as former CIA agents Ralph McGehee and Phil Retinger, Rear Admiral Gene La Rocque, Theodore Bissell (active in the CIA at the time), Sen. Frank Church and many others.

Moyers is very credible.

The full video "The Secret Government" is 90 minutes - this segment was edited by Frank Dorrel to 20 minutes in a desperate hope that time starved U.S. citizens will wake up to a far more sophisticated deception than the USSR or Peoples Republic of China ever inflicted on their people.

Watch an unfamiliar world unfold before your eyes. It's a land many other citizens around the world call the truth and the truth doesn't go away. It doesn't require flashy graphics, demagogue presenters and it doesn't need to shout.

The Twilight Zone - To Serve Man

Twilight Zone - To Serve Man from SpaceBoy J2 on Vimeo.

A classic episode of The Twilight Zone and not without some relevance to reports of our extra-dimensional friends from the Draco constellation which incidentally is where the word draconian stems from and is a wonderful Wikipedia disambiguation page to take a closer look at. Bon Appetit.

Hidden In Plain Sight

I don't have much in common these days with people who watch Television. They're like zombies pretending to be real. There's occasional good content out there but the risk of interruption by infomercials sanitizing war or senseless materialism is obscene.

Which is why I like Youtube clips of real people like Charlie McGrath and not the talking heads of coiffed hear, studio "make up" and patronising patter for anyone who wanders off message during the briefest of interviews. I wonder how useful iPads/Phone/Pod is going to be during this.

1994 Part II

I only noticed after the first 1994 post that this audio reading by Barbera Marciniak of her book Earth was also published in November 1994. To add another layer to the synchronicity the only reason I listened to it was because David Icke (again) name checks her in my dark side of the moon post, so I found her on Youtube and learned that much of it is too well informed to ignore.

A handful of people with fascinating interpretations of what is going on warn that channelling is transdimensional manipulation though it's my experience, no single genre of information is free of errors or agenda and so make your own mind up by cherry picking the stuff that never fails to put the decision making down to you. Television is the most toxic when thinking about media that just loves to have you rooting for a side you never previously cared about. Libyan rebels was the last one and the media controllers have the next one already lined up, ready and waiting for hypnotised gullibility to react again.

Let me be clear. There is no side but your own.

That's pretty much what Barbera's work above is saying.

@PiersMorgan - Media Weasel & Coincidence Theorist Gatekeeper

I don't own a TV, and I no longer listen to the news, after decades of being a news junkie of sorts. I believe I am however reasonably well informed. I never knew how Piers Morgan looked or spoke till just now. I knew he was editor of a scummy newspaper run by Rupert Murdoch so the working assumption was money and profile are more important to him than professional journalism.

When I learned that Piers was going to work for CNN, I assumed he would be continuing the tradition of Vaudeville theatre news after taking Larry "Kiss Ass" King's spot. We would ridicule Larry's faux newsroom beat-wardrobe of braces and Watergate style Bob Woodward glasses (I just made that last bit up about Woodward) but stay with me. King was every thing that was wrong with the news business and we were outraged that most viewers had no idea his news offering being served up was more damaging than helpful. I was often convinced that King was just as programmed as his viewers, though many know full well what can and cant be discussed. They are like school prefects with a tazer for  truth telling.

Larry King's questioning style was no more challenging than what coffee a guest preferred (one lump or two) and at the end of it all, he'd ask 'but how did it feel'. No matter what was in the news Larry wanted to know how it felt so that the viewers could resonate with the events of the day, which by and large had nothing to do with the real events taking place in the 20th century. Gulf of Tonkin for example.

I wondered if Piers Morgan could do it different but instead it's evident from this interview with Jesse Ventura that he is incapable of entertaining a single view point that isn't toeing the govcorp line. There is no way that Piers Morgan is going to break a single important story at CNN other than those he is given as favours for services provided.

How anyone can invite Jesse Ventura to his show and then say something so insulting as "surely you can't believe all this" is only equalled by his ignorance of the military weapon  HAARP while interviewing the most respected and high profile conspiracy theorist in the country. It's like inviting the Pope over and saying surely you don't believe in all this religion malarkey. What a douchebag. A corporate toady. A first class weasel. Ill informed. intellectually pedestrian, historically illiterate and unable to say anything that will ever rock the boat. A CNN special. Made for each other.

Turned Off TV

I know I've blogged about 'But does it float' before, but today's offering is hitting my Z spot if I can use that expression for the zeitgeist demonisation of the end of the TV era I'm noticing.

Here's a couple of turned off TV's below. Something I almost feel affectionate for from a bygone age when screens played out a unique signature of light-drama at the electric curtain call.

I've rejected a TV screen in my home for years now to the point that when I visit other peoples homes I'm taken aback how intrusive and badly informed the TV is. Like an ungrateful house guest. Bellicose and belligerent.

Look At Me

After just 30 seconds of watching television the brain begins to produce alpha waves which indicates torpid (almost comatose) rates of activity. When you watch TV, brain activity switches from the left to the right hemisphere. In fact, experiments conducted by researcher Herbert Krugman showed that while viewers are watching television, the right hemisphere is twice as active as the left, a neurological anomaly. The crossover from left to right releases a surge of the body's natural opiates: endorphins, which include beta-endorphins and enkephalins. Endorphins are structurally identical to opium and its derivatives (morphine, codeine, heroin, etc.). Activities that release endorphins (also called opioid peptides) are usually habit-forming (we rarely call them addictive). These include cracking knuckles, strenuous exercise, and orgasm.

External opiates act on the same receptor sites (opioid receptors) as endorphins, so there is little difference between the two.In addition to its devastating neurological effects, television can be harmful to your sense of self-worth, your perception of your environment , and your physical health. Recent surveys have shown that 75% of American women think they are overweight, likely the result of watching chronically thin actresses and models four hours a day.

Television has also spawned a "culture of fear" in the U.S. and beyond, with its focus on the limbic brain-friendly sensationalism of violent programming. Studies have shown that people of all generations greatly overestimate the threat of violence in real life. This is no shock because their brains cannot discern reality from fiction while watching TV. Television is bad for your body as well. Obesity, sleep deprivation, and stunted sensory development are all common among television addicts.

The nearest analogy to the addictive power of television and the transformation of values that is wrought in the life of the heavy user is probably heroin.~ Terence McKenna

reality hunger

Love this. I've been fast forwarding through the boring parts of Dexter earlier. I love the character but all that contrived futile love angle? It's maddening. Though I realise that sounds like ironic psychopathy.
