Teen Talk

The reward for my work, which I have never solicited payment for and do entirely for free covering a lot of ground that gets a lot of hate mail, is that I get to find out what writing styles and topics work best. Which key words drive the most traffic with different demographics and so forth. This is what you would expect from a former advertising guy whose best work was 73% increase year-on-year sales for  Coca-Cola China.

In plain language that's a lot of sugared water sales growth, and the primary reason I retired for the second time to become a beach bum in Thailand [expanding childhood obesity for the largest population on earth is not my measure of a successful life)

That's not the same reason why I subsequently overstayed my visa by SIX years till bailing out to Hong Kong but it's worth sharing so I'll drop that one day.

Enjoy the show

We Run Rap Music - The Puppet Masters Of The Music Industry - Satanic Illuminati Exposed [Part 1] (2nd Edition - Turning Japanese Extended Mix feat. You

I increasingly prefer using the word Illuminati these days. It's got a comedic edge to it, and also nobody likes to say they are a Gnostic Luciferian into blood rituals and occult magic, or if they do they like to call it 'art' when exposed.

Most people understand that secret societies use and exploit front groups like the CIA, Zionism, Council on Foreign Relations, Corporate Media and the Judiciary to manipulate and poison society for money.

Vigilant Citizen is an excellent source of information that awakened my eyes to the obvious and endless Illuminati symbolism in music and celebrity imagery. Is it copied unwittingly by underpants models in a Sears Catalogue? Sure.

Is the Illuminati and their "Network" real. You Betcha and all it takes is 20 minutes of symbolism and numerology to understand the code of declaration or "revelation of the method" that is their way of saying.

"We did tell you and you gave us your consent."

DBG #9 Skip Skip Benben | La' Lasta

Totally fresh music and a video made with love straight outta Beijing. Gives me hope. Here's a relevant post from a long distant galaxy far far away.

Skip Skip Benben are a patchwork of different bands and different genres, with Monkey (猴子) on drums, Steven Zhou (周乃仁) from Birdstriking and ½ Heavy Korean on Bass and Benben (斑班 ) from Freckles, Boyz & Girl and Carsick Cars on guitar and vocals. Our meeting with the band was preceded by weeks of anticipation, for a lot of which we didn't even know the name of this brilliant new[ish] Beijing act.

Back on the 18th October 2011, we walked into a surprise show from Beijing indie stalwarts P.K.14, at D-22 in Beijing's university district. Shortly after arriving, our friend Josh of China music and culture blog, pangbianr slid out from behind the bar to say hello. In passing, he mentioned that he knew a Taiwanese folk singer called Benben that he wanted to introduce us to later that evening, "I think she'd be great for your DaBaoGe project," he said.

In the haze of the beer, smoke and distorted guitars, it was another two visits in as many weeks, to the now defunct D-22 venue, before we pieced together the story behind Skip Skip Benben: an appealing blend of alt-folk, psychedelic indie rock and down-tempo, tropicana grooves. Off-stage, Benben is intensely shy and we tried, in vain to convince her to venture outside the crocheted-kitch security of her nostalgically decorated apartment. We could hardly blame her though; it was easily one of the coldest days we'd seen in 2011.

One song. One take. Skip-skip done, done. We reviewed the sound and it was...magical. In fact, we've had the audio take from this recording looping over and over in our music library, listening to it every day since that frigid morning in December. We hope you enjoy it too.

Check out more knick-knacks from the band on their blog.

If you're in Beijing or Shanghai, you can catch them live at one of their upcoming shows:
25th Feb in Beijing with The Pains Of Being Pure Heart @ 愚公移山 (Yu Gong Yi Shan)
8th Mar in Shanghai with Next Year's Love @ 育音堂 (Yuyintang)

Another Shit Presentation

You'd have to be brain dead not to pick up on how shallow, uninspiring and generally shit this presentation is between China Youthology and Ypulse. They're still obsessed with the word mashup when it's been embarrassingly unhip since the donkey mated with a horse creating the ass. You can have a quick flip through but the most stunning contradictions are the assertion that chinese youth (or is it just girls) are both materialistic and shallow (an aspirational life slide 7), feeling defeated and insecure (slide 10)  as well as evolving from surface to substance (slide 34).

China is huge, this is a tier one or two city surface report that could be culled from the web and while I know what they are trying to say they need to drop the mashup "it's groovy" speakeasy vibe, the superficial analysis and get down to the hard work of explaining those contradictions. Instead they'll use this to sell in to the multinationals who are looking for safe but edgy but safe generic catalog communications. ChinaSMACK is where it's at if you want to see where the dynamite is.
