If it wasn't for Doug Rushkoff I wouldn't have heard a podcast where Terrence McKenna talked about Marshall McCluhan. That odyssey hasn't abated since. I think he's one of the most important thinkers alive and here he articulates once again the case for the importance of emancipating people by harnessing their ability to create tools instead of just use tools. In other words program or be programmed. Here he is at Google with another important talk. It's about choice and alternatives. About unleashing potential.
As per Jon's advice I played around with the settings on the embed code (it's hard work and the width is 1020 if you're using blogger) and as it's such a far reaching thought piece on social media and the internet I'm reposting it. I still haven't figured out how to stop the autoplay so if somebody knows how to do that I'd appreciate some feedback.

I would have liked to embed this in my page here but the organisers of the branding conference don't quite get the mechanics of what makes a brand in the 21st century.
